Kershaw Cryo II Pocket Knife Review

BOB Prepper's Choice for an EDC Knife.

From the seasoned eye of an experienced prepper who has seen countless survival tools come and go, I can confidently say that this knife has earned its position in my top-tier essentials since April 2017. Crafted by the virtuoso hands of Rick Hinderer, its aesthetics are a testimony to its supreme design. The blackwash finish on the stainless steel is not just visually striking, but it also feels robust and comfortable in the hand. This isn’t merely about looks – the wear pattern on the handle provides an intuitive grip, ensuring it won’t slip even in the most strenuous conditions.

Structurally, this isn’t your average pocket knife. Its toughness is manifested through its impeccable blade lockup mechanism. The frame lock, combined with the SpeedSafe Assisted Opening, strikes a balance between safety and efficiency. Whether you’re a thumbstud enthusiast or a flipper aficionado, you’re catered to. One-handed deployment is not just a feature but a seamless experience, accentuated by the solid assurance that there’s zero wobble in the blade.

Speaking of the blade, the 8Cr13MoV stainless steel composition is a testament to its durability. Straight out of the box, it was razor-sharp, and astonishingly, even after three arduous years of relentless usage, it retains its edge with minimal maintenance. For a prepper, this is gold. When out in the wilderness or facing challenging situations, the last thing one needs is a blade that dulls easily.

The clip’s design deserves its own round of applause. Solid, reliable, and considerate to both left and right-handed users, it’s small details like these that amplify the tool’s value. With a handle thickness of .38″, it fits like it was custom-made for the front pocket of my jeans. It’s comfortably discreet yet instantly accessible.

In conclusion, my journey as a prepper has acquainted me with myriad knives, but few have stood the test of time and utility as this one has. Be it your primary Everyday Carry (EDC) or your trusty backup, this knife seamlessly melds aesthetic allure with functional prowess. It’s not just a tool; it’s a companion you’d want by your side, always.

Excellent Knife! This knife has a great feel in my hand, the weight is excellent. Very solid, once locked, the bade doesn't move a bit. The quick deployment is fantastic, very, very smooth movement. Razor sharp right out of the package. The clip is very sturdy, I clip mine in my front jeans packet and it stays put and out of the way, easy to pull out, then clips back nicely. The look is excellent, like it's been my trusted knife for years.
